Urban design is somewhere in the middle lasting within a moderate duration of decades and centuries. This question of green cities and social justice resonates with me in both my personal and professional experience.
Across the U.S., urban planning is still used by some as the spatial toolkit, consisting of a set of policies and practices, for maintaining White supremacy. But urban planners of color, especially, are pointing out ways to reimagine inclusive urban spaces by dismantling the legacy of racist planning, housing, and infrastructure policies.
The theme: Social Justice in Planning. Each speaker came up to present their research and personal stories on issues related to city planning and the effects that city policies have had on underserved communities.
